New Hudson Jeans

We just got in a new style of Hudson's - The Marisa Trouser. They are super dark, simple and have a decent flare to them. They are the perfect going out jean, or for a day at the office because of their simplicity and wash. They do have a different back pocket than the typical flap pocket Hudson is known for, but I am still a fan!

" I have often said that I wish I had invented blue jeans: the most spectacular, the most practical, the most relaxed and nonchalant. They have expression, modesty, sex appeal, simplicity- all I hope for in my clothes." ~ Yves Saint Laurent

Chris Benz

I snagged this photo from my friend, Elizabeth Hanson, who is currently interning in NYC for Lancome. She also used to work for Elodie before she jetted off for college, but as you can see she is definitely still one of our favorite customers. She looks fabulous in the M M Couture Dress by Miss Me for the event that Lancome put on at Saks. In the photograph with her is CHRIS BENZ, a very lovely American designer.

Oh and don't worry...we still have a couple of these dresses left at the store right now!

Midnight in Paris

I just saw Midnight in Paris for the second time last night and this time around all I could pay attention to was how lovely the character of Adriana (Marion Cotillard) dressed in the film. The dresses she wears are very elegant and feminine and in my opinion she is by far the most charming character in the movie. Her appeal reminded me a little bit of the clothing line we carry at Elodie called Hazel, which is a European-inspired collection... very lady-like and feminine due to their use of lace trims and small detailed beading. Here are a couple of the dresses she wore in the film, I am obsessed!

My Favorite Thing...

My favorite thing in at Elodie right now is definitely the Yetts poncho. PLUS it is only forty-five dollars! It is lightweight and great to just throw on over almost anything. People have been pairing this poncho with colorful tanks, maxi skirts and dresses, or just a casual pair of blue jeans.

And the ever so lovely Alessandra Ambrosio sporting a poncho herself

Rock Prints Like Margherita Missoni

We have in quite a few printed tops and dresses at Elodie right now and sometimes they can be tough to work with. So I decided to post a Q and A interview with Margherita Missoni about dressing in prints from Nina Garcia's Black Book of Style (of course).
Q: What is your secret to dressing in prints?
A: As with anything, you just have to feel comfortable in them. If you don't, don't even try. If you are uncomfortable in bold colors or anything drastic, it's not going to look good.
Q: Can you mix prints?
A: Yes, definitely. It depends what you are going for. If you are going for a hippy seventies look, you are going to mix prints. If you go for gypsy or boho, you mix. I don't see prints as constricting. I see prints as pieces that you can mix just as you mix different shapes and volumes.
Q: Can you wear prints to a wedding?
A: Yes, I often do. I think you wouldn't wear anything too bold or too bright, just as you wouldn't wear anything white. You never upstage the bride. Don't go for something that is too much. Lighter-color prints are good.

Rachel Zoe's Tips For Organizing Your Closet

What is a perfect task to do on a lazy Sunday afternoon?? Maybe FINALLY clean out and organize your closet... the one thing you have been meaning to do for quite some time now. Here are some tips from "Style A to Zoe" to get you started!

  • Use the sectional boxes used to organize screws and nails from hardware stores to store all your jewelry. You can line them first with fun patterned fabric swatches to protect your more delicate pieces and also add some funk to the container. The clear tops allow for quick surveying, the hard plastic keeps everything protected and all the boxes will stack nicely. They are also portable and super cheap!
  • Shoes look and work well if lined up by color, then suborganized by heel type. If you have room in your closet try using a bookshelf to organize your shoes, it displays them quite nicely.
  • Hang your clothes according to category first, then color. Try to use the same color hangers throughout your closet, it makes for a neater appearance.
  • Don't know how to let clothes go?? (Believe me, I definitely do not) Ask yourself these five questions....
  1. Why am I holding on to it?
  2. Is it worth anything?
  3. What kind of shape is it in, and is it beyond repair?
  4. Can I replace it?
  5. Do I want to replace it with an updated version?

Comfy & Casual This Weekend

Since this weekend is going to be a bit cooler than those hot and humid days earlier this week it is the perfect time to whip out that maxi skirt or dress you have been wanting to wear! Maxi skirts are fun to wear...but not in extreme heat. Lucky for you it looks like this weekend should be great weather for a maxi. Here is one of the maxi skirts we have in at Elodie right now, it is a piece from the new line we started carrying-Yetts. It is very bohemian chic and a reasonable price. It is paired with the Ya striped tank and the Tulle olive cardigan.

Adding Some Funk To Your Feet- JC Shoes

Today I started reading "THE ELLEMENTS OF PERSONAL STYLE," it is a book filled with 25 modern fashion icons advice on how to dress, shop and live (the book is sorta kinda REALLY good). Anyways, while reading Becki Newton's section I came across one of her thoughts on fashion.... "Every girl needs a shoe that goes with nothing and therefore goes with everything." Reading this reminded me of how badly I NEED a pair of Jeffrey Campbell shoes. All of his shoes have the most unique designs to them and are super funky. Some of them are so crazy that they literally do not go with anything and I guess that means that they actually can go with anything?? Here are some of his shoes on my wish list!

If I was a lucky owner of one of these shoes I would probably pair them with the new Tulle dress that we got in at Elodie this week. It is simple and has an elegant cut, but the small details to it make it more fun than just the typical LBD.

...And to finish off the look I would throw on a simple, vintage-inspired necklace.
Oh, and this dress is only $55 dollarss!

PLEAT Obsessed

One of the biggest trends of the season is pleated skirts and dresses. The look is super feminine, vintage-esque, and well, pretty classy if you ask me! I love that you can dress the look up or down and that it can transition from season to season easily. They come in all different lengths too...

Anyways, we just got an adorable mocha pleated skirt in at Elodie made by Yetts. It is a mid-length skirt and very versatile; you can pair it with a plain tank or a printed top like this outfit.

Monday Inspiration

"Remember that always dressing in understated good taste is the same as playing dead."
